BIO
The core of The Soul Section as with any great funk band is the rhythm section, which started playing together more than twenty years ago. The beat begins and ends with drummer Beau Faw. Beau is an encyclopedia of drumming history and styles. His experience playing all types of music gives him the musical vocabulary to deliver an authentic performance, true to the genre.
In lockstep with Beau is bassist Pete Donery. Beau & Pete grew up in the same neighborhood, played in high school band together and through years of performance, have become the backbone of The Soul Section. Pete has always been drawn to the driving bass lines of Motown, Stax, and James Brown. He understands how a bass line can be an irresistible force to get a dance floor bumping. For many years, Pete was the bass player for The Violet Fox Band, holding down the bottom for this successful Motown and Soul revue.
Pete shared backline duties in The Violet Fox Band with another Soul Section member, guitarist Brian Clothier. Brian comes from a rock background, as evidenced by his searing solos, and has used his blues and rock influences to achieve a funky rhythmic style that fits right in the pocket.
On keyboards and vocals is Vince Nash. Vince is one of the lucky ones that has never had to take a day job. He has earned a living playing music his whole life. His versatile playing style and vocal range fill out this talented rhythm section. Hundreds of performances have formed this rhythm section into a cohesive unit that locks on to a groove and keeps it going all night.
A tight horn section on top of this funky foundation takes the music to the next level. Horns are an integral part of what gives funk and soul it’s unique sound and on this count, The Soul Section horns fully deliver. These horn players are seasoned professionals with years of experience recording and touring. Trumpet player Rich Armstrong and saxophonist Garrett Kobseff boast extensive touring, recording and performance credits ranging from Boz Scaggs, Cold Blood and Michelle Shocked to the phenomenon of the Jazz Mafia. These horns players have the chops and experience to do the job right
Right up front is Kevin Mulligan, a lead singer and front man that knows how to get the party started. Kevin was also a key component to the success of the Violet Fox Band. He can’t stand still and knows how to connect with an audience. His charisma, understanding of performance and buoyant personality puts a jubilant face to this talented show band.
The Soul Section is professional in every sense of the word. Years of playing nightclubs and every kind of party have brought the experience necessary to enhance any occasion. Professional equipment and quick set up & strike, coupled with a strong desire to deliver a performance that brings out the best in people, makes The Soul Section a great choice for live music performance
